Indiana Core Assessments for Educator Licensure
The Indiana CORE Assessments for the Indiana Educator Licensure Program (IELP) includes a test of basic skills (Core Academic Skills Assessment), four developmental (pedagogy) area assessments, and more than fifty content area assessments.
Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA)
Prospective Indiana educators are required to demonstrate basic skills competency prior to admission to Indiana educator preparation programs. CASA includes three subtests:
- CASA-Reading (40 multiple-choice questions)
- CASA-Mathematics (40 multiple-choice questions)
- CASA-Writing (42 multiple-choice questions and one writing assignment)
Important CASA Information Regarding Admission to the IU Southeast School of Education
The following criteria apply to all applicants to the Education Program, including those switching from the other education programs at IU Southeast and transferring from other higher education institutions. Students must "have a 24 on the ACT (without writing) or 1100 on the SAT (without writing) or Praxis I scores of Math 175, Reading 176 and Writing 172 or a combined score of 527 (taken prior to August 31, 2013) or CASA scores of Math 220, Reading 220, and Writing 220." Test Fees and Registration Procedures

If you register for a CASA test on or after March 1, 2014 IU Southeast requires a $10.00 registration fee for each test. For example, the CASA Combined test requires payment of $30; CASA subtests are $10 each. Please bring the registration payment receipt and picture ID to your test session.
Developmental (Pedagogy) Area Assessments
Four assessments, based on the Indiana School Setting Developmental Standards, have been developed:
- Early Childhood Education (P-3)
- Elementary Education (K-6)
- Secondary Education (5-12)
- P-12 Education
Content Area Assessments
Over fifty assessments, based on the Indiana Educator Standards, have been developed.
