Media Relations and Public Relations are an important component in IU Southeast’s marketing and community relations strategies. The University Communications staff develops press releases, responds to media requests, and finds subject matter experts for local and regional media.
Of course, public relations is different than marketing. Marketing is about getting people to do something, typically with advertising campaigns. Advertising cost money. Media Relations doesn’t cost a dime. That's why we we work so hard to get "earned media." Our media relations staff don't take out ads in the newspaper, on the radio, or on TV. Instead, we tell the University’s stories in meaningful ways, and we earn our media coverage.
In essence, our office uses a myriad of free tools to communicate with the University’s many publics.
