Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science

Degree Information

Clinical laboratory science is aimed at quality performance of clinical laboratory procedures on biological samples from patients. The results of these procedures provide important patient data that aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The clinical laboratory science curriculum offered at IU Southeast provides a broadly based background including specific chemistry, mathematics, and biological science requirements, as well as the opportunity to elect courses from the liberal arts. The curriculum of the clinical laboratory science program is fully accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation.
Students pursuing the BS in Clinical Lab Science will complete approximately two years of pre-professional coursework on the IU Southeast campus and must then apply to the professional (clinical) program through Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. Non-Indiana University tuition is required for the professional hours at Bellarmine University, and the professional program is presented in a full-time, day format only.

University Credit Hour & Residency Requirements

All Baccalaureate degrees offered by IU Southeast requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and a minimum of 30 credit hours of upper-level coursework (300-level or above). No more than 64 credit hours earned in accredited junior/community colleges may be applied toward a Baccalaureate degree. The University Residency Requirement dictates that students must complete no less than 26 credit hours at IU Southeast during their senior year and no less than 10 credit hours of coursework in the major field of study.

Clinical Laboratory Science Residency Requirements

Due to the unique nature of this degree, students completing the BS in Clinical Laboratory Science through IU Southeast may transfer all clinical courses from Bellarmine University and are not required to complete the university residency requirement of 26 cr. hrs. in the senior year.
